Featuring a hand-drawn design from artist Sally Chen, the text is inspired by criticism of women-focused paperback fiction like the best-selling Women's Barracks, which was denounced by the House Select Committee on Current Pornographic Materials in 1952 as an example of how the publishing industry was “promoting moral degeneracy.”.

If “moral degeneracy” means creating books that depict the world we live in and amplifying voices on the margins, we’re here for it.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Sally Chen (they/she/he) is a queer, nonbinary, 2nd-generation Chinese American illustrator, muralist, and poet born & based in NYC. Their work explores the quiet intimacies that occur in daily life. They utilize free-flowing lines, vibrant colors, glowing silhouettes, bits of verse, and portraiture to capture the many fleeting moments of joy and sorrow that keep us yearning for another day, and consequently, a brighter future.
