FP to Receive $40K Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts!

The Feminist Press is excited to announce that we have been approved for a $40,000 Grants for Arts Projects award from the National Endowment for the Arts to support our book publications and programming in 2021. Our project is among 1,073 projects across America totaling nearly $25 million that were selected during this first round of fiscal year 2021 funding in the Grants for Arts Projects funding category.

“The National Endowment for the Arts is proud to support this project from the Feminist Press,” said Arts Endowment Acting Chairman Ann Eilers. “The Feminist Press is among the arts organizations across the country that have demonstrated creativity, excellence, and resilience during this very challenging year.”

“Feminist Press is proud to publish essential, cutting-edge books that embody our mission to build a more just future,” said Interim Executive Director and Publisher Lauren Hook. “As a springboard for debut authors, we seek out those writers who can further feminist discourse with their unique voice and story. The NEA's support this year will help us lift up a new generation of feminist storytellers—shining light on an array of diverse works, from literature in translation, to hybrid memoir, to queer dystopia.”

The titles supported by this award include forthcoming spring titles Black Box, the memoir that sparked Japan’s #MeToo movement, written by Shiori Ito and translated by Allison Markin Powell; Tastes Like War by Grace M. Cho; We Are Bridges by Cassandra Lane, the winner of our 2020 Louise Meriwether First Book Prize; and Skye Papers by Jamika Ajalon. We look forward to announcing the additional titles that will receive NEA support in our fall 2021 season.
