Meet Feminist Power Honoree Jenny Lumet!
The Feminist Press 2017 Feminist Power Awards will be held on October 16 in NYC. This annual tradition celebrates leaders whose work advances human rights, dignity, and empowerment. Among our honorees for 2017, we are celebrating film and television writer Jenny Lumet.
Jenny Lumet has authored numerous films including The Center Cannot Hold, The Language of Flowers, and Rachel Getting Married, for which she received a New York Film Critics Circle Award, Toronto Film Critics Association Award, Washington D.C. Film Critics Association Award, and a NAACP Image Award. She doctored the scripts for Remember Me, Bobbie Sue, Honeymoon with Harry, and The Mummy. Ms. Lumet is currently at work on the Untitled Monsters Franchise for Universal Studios and a series pilot for Amazon Television, her second series pilot for CBS television, and a series pilot for the UK’s Blueprint Pictures.
Founder and chair of the WGAE’s first Diversity Caucus, Ms. Lumet is on the Board of Directors for BinderCon, a conference for women and gender non-conforming writers. She serves on the Council of the Writers Guild of America East and the Board of the Writers Guild Initiative. Lumet also holds screenwriting seminars for women of color and women over forty.
It takes a feminist like Ms. Lumet to ensure that cinema and television honestly depict the world we live in. The Feminist Press is thrilled to award Ms. Lumet a Feminist Power Award for her commitment to mentorship and groundbreaking writing.
