Meet Feminist Power Honoree Alphonso B. David

The Feminist Press 2017 Feminist Power Awards will be held on October 16 in NYC. This annual tradition celebrates leaders whose work advances human rights, dignity, and empowerment. Among our honorees for 2017, we are celebrating Alphonso B. David, Chief Counsel to Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Alphonso B. David is an attorney, law professor, and policy advisor with significant litigation and management experience in the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors. Since 2015, Mr. David has overseen all significant legal and policy deliberations affecting New York State. Before his appointment as Chief Counsel, Mr. David served in the Governor’s cabinet as the Deputy Secretary and Counsel for Civil Rights. He has also served as Special Deputy Attorney General for Civil Rights for the Office of the NYS Attorney General, Deputy Commissioner and Special Counselor at the NYS Division of Human Rights, and as staff attorney at the Lambda Legal Defense and Educational Fund. Mr. David is also an adjunct professor of law at Fordham University.

It takes a feminist like Alphonso B. David to make institutional changes supportive of all New Yorkers. The Feminist Press is elated to award Mr. David a Feminist Power Award for his support of the LGBTQ+ community and commitment to educating the next generation.

Meet Alphonso and party with him and fellow honorees Riane Eisler, Jenny Lumet, Sheri Salata, Brandon Steiner, and Lisa Topol at Edison Ballroom on October 16. For tickets, click here.
