FP to honor Sheila C. Johnson at 2016 Feminist Power Awards
The Feminist Press 2016 Feminist Power Awards will be held on September 20 in NYC. This annual tradition celebrates leaders whose work advances human rights, dignity, and empowerment. Among our honorees for 2016, we are celebrating entrepreneur and philanthropist Sheila C. Johnson, CEO of Salamander Hotels & Resorts.
Sheila has worked across many fields in her remarkable career. A founding partner of Black Entertainment Television (BET), Sheila has served as executive producer of four documentary films including Kicking It and A Powerful Noise. Sheila serves on numerous boards including the Board of Governors of Parsons School for Design, the Leadership Council at Harvard Kennedy School’s Center for Public Leadership, the Jackie Robinson Foundation, and the Middleburg Film Festival. Sheila has also served as an ambassador for CARE, a humanitarian organization that combats poverty on a global scale by empowering women.
Sheila is the only African American woman to have ownership in three professional sports teams: the NBA’s Washington Wizards, the NHL’s Washington Capitals, and the WNBA’s Washington Mystics.
As Founder and CEO of Salamander Hotels & Resorts, Sheila oversees a number of luxury properties including the equestrian-inspired Salamander Resort & Spa in Middleburg, VA.
The Feminist Press is elated to award Sheila C. Johnson a Feminist Power Award for her vision, generosity, and interdisciplinary contributions.
