Feminist Press Board of Directors Announces Interim Director

The Feminist Press Board of Directors is excited to announce that Senior Editor Lauren Rosemary Hook has been named Interim Executive Director and Publisher of the Press. Hook will lead the fifty-year-old organization while the Board searches for the next Executive Director.

Lauren Rosemary Hook joined the Press in 2014. As an editor, she has sought to acquire intersectional, nuanced books that inspire and further feminist discourse. She has acquired a diverse list of international feminist works in translation from Equatorial Guinea, Thailand, Mexico, and Croatia, among others. “Lauren’s steadfast commitment to all aspects of feminist publishing and editorial virtuosity will sustain FP’s momentum in the coming months,” says FP’s current Executive Director Jamia Wilson. Hook has edited titles including Grieving and The Iliac Crest by MacArthur Fellow Cristina Rivera Garza, both translated by Sarah Booker; Fiebre Tropical by Juli Delgado Lopera, a singular work of Spanglish named a finalist for the 2020 Kirkus Prize for Fiction; Against Memoir by Michelle Tea, winner of a 2019 PEN Literary Award; and Love War Stories by Ivelisse Rodriguez, a finalist for the 2019 PEN/Faulkner.

“We are grateful to Lauren for keeping our staff and operations steady and moving forward,” explains Linda Villarosa, Chair of FP’s Board of Directors. “Her leadership, dedication, and talent are important right now as the Press continues to evolve and grow into the future.”

Wilson announced in September that she would be joining Random House as Vice President and Executive Editor in January 2021. The Board of Directors will be conducting a nationwide search for her replacement.
